Apps
Your news app,
built on a proven platform
Give your publication its own native iOS and Android app. Our shared platform gets you off to a faster start and keeps development and maintenance costs down.
Let’s talk about your app
An app of your own,
with a team behind it
We build and maintain the platform behind your app, so improvements benefit every publisher who uses it. You get an app shaped around your publication, with a team to look after it.
We design the app to suit your brand, connect it to your systems and handle testing, maintenance and app store releases for both iOS and Android.

An app that feels
like your publication
Your front page, section pages and article lists should feel familiar to your readers. We design them around your publication, using content from your existing publishing system.
These three apps share a platform, but each has its own typography, layout and editorial style.

Made for reading
Readers can move between articles, browse photo galleries and catch up offline. Your publishing system supplies the articles as HTML, so you keep control of their layouts.
Editions and archives, too
Richie Editions adds digital editions, back issues and interactive puzzles to the same app.
Explore EditionsDownloaded articles and images are available offline. External videos and web services need an internet connection.
There’s more than
one way to enjoy a story
Bring podcasts, narrated editions and audiobooks into your app. Browsing, downloads and playback are built in.

Pick up where you left off
The player remembers where listeners stopped. They can download audio for later and keep listening while they use other apps.
Playback speed controls and a sleep timer are built in, whether it’s a short podcast, a narrated issue or a full-length audiobook.
Your business,
built into your app
Keep the tools you use to manage subscriptions, advertising and customer data. We connect your app to them.
- Sign-in and subscriptions
- Readers sign in with their existing accounts to read the content they subscribe to. You can also sell subscriptions and one-off purchases through the app stores, and offer subscription trials.
- Advertising in feeds and articles
- Serve ads through your existing services, including Google Ad Manager. Your app can also include sponsored articles and full-screen Richie Ads.
- Reader insights in your own tools
- Track app usage and article readership in your existing analytics tools. Send events directly to your own systems or to services such as BlueConic and Braze.
- Push notifications and in-app messages
- Send push notifications immediately, schedule them for later or automate them. Readers choose the topics they want to hear about. You can also use Braze to send messages within the app.
Keep the tools you know
Our platform already supports the services shown here. We connect the ones you use to your app as part of the setup.
Your existing web services can work in the app too, with the accounts your readers already use. There’s no need to rebuild them.
We’re with you
well beyond launch
We handle design, integration and the app store launch together with your team. Once your app is live, we maintain it and keep developing it as the platform grows.
Design and content
We design the news layouts and navigation. Your publishing system supplies complete HTML articles, including their layouts.
Integration and launch
We connect your systems, test the app and publish it in the app stores.
Maintenance and development
We update the apps as iOS and Android evolve. Many content and design settings can be changed without an app store release. New native features need an app store release.
